Privacy

Unit keeps your board on your own machine. There is no account, no analytics, and nothing is sold to anyone. This page explains the exceptions, because there are a few, and they matter more than the reassurance.

What stays on your machine

Everything you save and everything you write. Listings, rent, photos, features, your notes, your ratings, visit notes, application records, viewings, boards and settings all live in your browser's local storage, on the device you saved them on.

We have no copy. If you uninstall Unit, or clear the browser's data for the extension, that information is gone — including from us, because we never had it. Export a backup before you uninstall.

What leaves your machine, and where it goes

Four things, all of them to put a pin on a map or work out a journey. None of them receives your notes, your ratings, or anything else you typed.

Each of these is a third party with its own privacy policy. We send them the minimum needed and never anything that identifies you by name.

Google Maps

Directions links open Google Maps in a new tab. That only happens when you click one, and from then on you are on Google's site under Google's terms.

What the rental sites see

When Unit reads a listing page — whether you clicked the icon or pressed re-check — the request comes from your browser and your IP address, exactly as if you had opened the page yourself.

That is the honest description. Nothing is routed through us, and we never learn which listings you saved.

Nothing reads a page unless you press something. There is no background activity and no schedule.

Permissions, and why each one exists

Reading the page you're on — the only way to pull the rent and features out of a listing. It runs when you ask it to, on the page you asked about.
Access to sites — optional, and requested only when you first save from a site. Decline it and Unit still works; you'll type the details yourself.
Tabs — to open a listing in the background during a re-check, and to close it again afterwards.
Notifications — to tell you what a re-check found.
Storage — your board.

What we don't do

No analytics, telemetry or usage tracking of any kind.
No accounts, and no email address unless you write to us.
No advertising, and no data sold or shared with anyone for any purpose.
No profile of your search, your budget, or where you're looking.

If you pay

Payment is handled by a payment provider, not by us. We never see your card. A licence key is stored on your machine and checked against our server about once a day; that check sends the key and nothing else — not your listings, not how many you have, not which sites you use.

If the check can't reach us, Unit keeps working. An outage on our side is not your problem.

Your data, your call

See it — it's all in the app, and More → Export writes it to a file you can open in a text editor.
Take it — export works on every tier, including after a subscription ends. Your notes are never held hostage.
Delete it — remove listings in the app, or uninstall the extension to remove everything at once. There is nothing on our side to request the deletion of.

Because your information stays with you, most of what a privacy law entitles you to — access, portability, erasure — you can do yourself, immediately, without asking us. If you have paid, write to us and we'll delete the licence record.

Children

Unit isn't intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your machine, the extension will say so before the change takes effect rather than quietly updating this page.
